A Healthy Smile is a Glamorous Smile
Some of these items we probably shouldn’t have to mention but here are a few easy ways to keep your teeth clean and healthy at all times. After all, a healthy smile is a glamorous smile!
1. Brush Your Teeth After Eating
Brush your teeth after you have breakfast in the morning to ensure that sugar, acid or debris isn’t left in your mouth and your morning breath is fresh and ready for the day. After each meal, one can also simply drink a glass of water or chew sugar-free gum to restore your dental pH levels.
2. Brush Properly
A simple manual toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, and a brushing schedule (morning and night) are crucial to good oral hygiene. The best teeth whitening strips will not yield any real results if you don’t have a proper brushing schedule set. Be sure not to rush and spend two minutes twice a day brushing. Work your way from one corner of the mouth to the other, making sure you brush all the surfaces in a circular motion without pressing too hard.
3. Avoid Unhealthy, Sugary Snacks
After you eat, your mouth becomes acidic for roughly 40 minutes. If you eat sugary snacks constantly during the day, it’s more likely cavities will develop.
4. Visit the Dentist
Be sure to stay on a regular schedule with your dentist and keep up with cleanings. It is important to visit your dentist twice a year. Regular visits will allow your dentist time to detect any areas which could lead to potential problems. Usually, when problem areas are detected early, the treatment is less invasive.
In addition to checking the teeth for cavities and gum infections, dentists can check for some systemic diseases, such as diabetes, leukemia, oral cancer, and heart disease. One can have oral manifestations that can be detected during a dental examination. Swollen and/or bleeding gums, bad breath, and a sore jaw can all be signs of either dental or other health problems.
