Welcome to the Detroit Foundation Hotel: Detroit’s Original Detroit Fire Department Headquarters
Everyone is talking about Detroit’s “come back” but to be honest, the gems of the city have always been around and through the thick and thin of decades past, beautiful historic buildings are still standing with beauty and true history all of us Detroiters appreciate and adore. One building in particular? The Detroit Foundation Hotel, the original Detroit Fire Department Headquarters.
The Detroit Foundation Hotel is a hotel located at Detroit’s original fire department headquarters right downtown in the heart of the city and consists of a 100-room property owned by the Aparium Hotel Group. It has a modern, sassy flair with details in each and every room paying tribute to Michigan, the automotive industry and local Detroit businesses. Offering four types of rooms; the Deluxe King, Junior Suite, Secretary’s Suite and Commissioner’s Suite, the hotel promises no two rooms are alike.
The headboards in each room are simple pieces of plywood painted with automotive paint. My favorite Detroit touch is behind each of the beds is a dark wood wall made with salvaged wood from Architectural Salvage Warehouse. Snacks, candles and treats are also provided in each room’s private bar, all from Detroit businesses and retailers. Companies like McClure, Germack, Detroit Wallpaper, Mitten Bites and Shinola are all brands you’ll see represented in your room.
When entering the Detroit Foundation Hotel, you immediately see the Apparatus Room. A trendy farm to table restaurant that serves food from local farmers and resources throughout Michigan. The bar area in the Apparatus room is brightly decorated with a couple of hundred Edison-like bulbs that hang from the ceiling and artwork made by local artists fill the surrounding walls.
There’s nothing like this hotel in the city. We have some amazing restaurants and hotels that have really proven themselves throughout Detroit’s transformation but The Detroit Foundation Hotel remains a unique favorite no one can duplicate. Please take my advice and visit. Click here to make a reservation at the Apparatus Room or to make a hotel reservation for an overnight stay.
