Good Cakes and Bakes Brings a New Meaning to Sweets in Detroit

In the middle of Fashion Avenue downtown Detroit, there’s a sweet shop that has made local and national headlines but they have nothing to do with fashion and everything to do with sweets baked from scratch! Yum! Good Cakes and Bakes began in 2008, and already has a long list of famous clients and local fans. A favorite of Oprah herself, Good Cakes and Bakes has been featured on Food Network and is a favorite local hang out among sweet lovers in Detroit.

Thanks to the Visit Detroit team, a few of my fellow blogging friends and I were invited to visit and experience a cupcake decorating class with their award-winning cupcakes. I can’t say mine was the most glamorous but they sure were yummy! What makes them so good? The recipe includes gluten-free, vegan, and other allergen-friendly options that taste like heaven!

The owner, April Anderson greeted us and gave us some of her personal decorating tips during the class. She was just as delightful as her cupcakes and we enjoyed our visit.

Not into cupcakes? That’s okay, also in the bakery you can enjoy freshly baked cookies, a good ole Detroit Vernors and sit with your friends and relax. That’s exactly what we did after our cupcake decorating!
